Miriam

Single mother of six children

In our journey before being taken in at Family Promise, one of the biggest challenges we faced was being told ‘No’ repeatedly due to my family size. Trying so many shelters and resources, always getting my heart broken and feeling defeated and like a failure to my children.

Family Promise saved my kids and me. They were there during the most crucial time in our lives, which was the end of my pregnancy with my last child, taking us in a mere two weeks before her arrival. They were the welcoming, warm arms we didn’t know we so desperately needed. The whole church community became part of our family.

From housing to advocacy Family Promise has, and is still, doing for my family. They were there in my most trying moment—from support when my kids were in foster care to rooting for me in getting my first stable job during COVID and maintaining it. They helped us maintain a sense of normalcy and belonging, and still do now with all their gatherings and the summer camp. I will forever be grateful.
