Cardboard Box City Returns for Its Seventh Year!
Join us on Saturday, May 5th, for the 7th Annual Cardboard Box City, which will take place at St. James School in Torrance. Gates will open at 3:00 p.m. for this fun and inspirational event. Participants and their sponsors raise funds and awareness for Family Promise of the South Bay and the homeless families they serve. Most of us can't imagine what it would be like to lose our homes and be forced to sleep in our cars, on the streets, or to rely on friends and family for refuge. But sleeping in a cardboard box is a reality for many in our community, and when children are involved it is especially heartbreaking.
Cardboard Box City is open to all ages and affiliations. We encourage service organizations and youth groups to participate as a learning experience and service project. Participants build their own shelter and sleep outdoors in a safe and secure area. The activities and entertainment that take place throughout the evening are geared to families and youth. They include live music, dinner, games, raffle and breakfast the morning of May 6th. Original Tommy’s Burger has joined us as a sponsor and will be providing dinner to all participants from its iconic ‘Shack on Wheels’ food truck!
Registration is $20 a person in advance, and $25 at the event. Prizes are awarded for the participants (individuals and teams) who raise the most money. Registration is open online at cardboardboxcity.com.
Cardboard Box City is an important advocacy and awareness event for all ages where we seek to better understand the many layers of homelessness and how we can effect change in the South Bay. We hope you’ll join us and help build a stronger community! For more information, contact Cristina or Nick at 310.782.8196.
