1 year old baby

In March 2023, we received a notice that our rent would increase by $250. Unfortunately, we were not able to make that additional payment. What we thought would be 3 months turned into a year and a half (and counting) of homelessness. We were also pregnant at the time of the notice and had no place to bring our baby home. We were in a program, Safe Park in Torrance, that allowed families and individuals to park overnight in their cars. This program appeared to be promising for our small family. We were told that if we could find an apartment, the program would assist with the move-in costs. I was working at the time and was able to cover the cost. So, we finally moved in and were awaiting the check from the program, but when the check was not mailed to the landlord, they asked if we could cover the $5,000 or we would have to move out. Again, this was too much for us, and we were back in the car for another 8 months. Then finally, we got the call from Family Promise and were relieved because we finally had a place to bathe, wash clothes, and play with our daughter.

They provided a place where we could do the basic things that everyone should be able to do. Being able to take a shower, eat a homecooked meal, and sleep somewhere warm.

Although we have been in the program for a short while, we have felt a sense of gratitude and thankfulness for the program. We are finally back in our city and able to look for jobs and be close to our family again.
